Book
presentation and signing ceremony:
"L'Afrique dans le Temps du Monde" and "Etude
du Lexique des Stoïciens"
by Professor
Djibril Samb
"L'Afrique
dans le Temps du Monde" and "Etude du
Lexique des Stoïciens"
It could be safely said that never before this afternoon
of Saturday, May 8, from 3:45pm to 7pm, had WARC gathered
such a glittering galaxy of intellectuals, thinkers and
cultivated minds.
Indeed, the presentation of Professor Djibril Samb's
latest two publications drew a very large attendance including
some of the best academics and thinkers in the Senegalese
capital among whom distinguished and high profile political
leaders who, on that day, also took the floor and gave
a hint of their intellectual sharpness.

prime minister
(Mousatapha Niasse) and two former ministers and writers
(Abdoulaye Elimane Kane and Cheikh Hamidou Kane) from

The tone was
set by the two researchers-cum-academics designated to introduce
the author and also discuss the two books. They aptly dissected
the fine writing, thinking and analytical depth of Professor
Djibril Samb and lauded his uncommon intellectual integrity
while stressing his unquenchable thirst and quest for scholarship.
Expertly demonstrating, on one hand, how and why the stoic
philosophy of ancient Greece and Rome is universal enough
to apply to today's world and affairs, they, on the other
hand, extolled the rightful place of Africa in contemporary
learning and scholarship. Indeed, for Professor Djibril
Samb and his colleagues on the podium, Africa should recapture
her status as a society of learning and does not need to
cut herself from her africanness to get involved and play
her full role in world affairs with the rest of the world.

Insightful questions and contributions were made by participants
and the three speakers of the day produced the expected
in-depth and apt answers and clarifications. The various
presentations and ensuing debate were such an appetizing
intellectual nourishment that the 127 participants stayed
on and listened for over three hours running.
